AEDM Day #30 – Working On The Snow Peoples

So, it’s the last day of AEDM (Art Every Day Month) and I’ve had a pretty pathetic showing this year. I have no excuse. I just didn’t make it a priority, and as a result, I really disappointed myself.

I can’t change that, so I’m not going to dwell on it, but I AM going to try and make up for it by kicking my creativity and productivity up a bunch of notches in December.

For my last “official” post of AEDM for November, 2014, I’d like to show you the progress I’ve made on the snow people ornaments I showed you yesterday. BTW, did you know “snowoman” is not a word? What’s up with that? Humph!

So, I started with four hand prints using just plain ol’ acrylic paint…a little messy, but I can work with them.

I cleaned them up a little adding extra paint in the empty areas of the palm prints and around the bottom for the “ground” the snowmen are built on.  To that I added “snow-tex” for a little extra dimension, and began adding detail.

Somehow, Lexi’s ended up with 6 fingers (how did I miss that while the paint was wet???) and when I tried to remove the dry paint, messed up the finish on the ball. Yikes. What to do, what to do? So, plan “B.” The 6th finger became a package in the snow. Not bad, huh?

If I don’t run into any more problems, I should be able to finish painting them, do the pen detail, and have them done tomorrow! Woohoo! Looks like I’m going to actually finish a project!

Now Josh wants me to do one for his cat, Bootsie. Mama is game to try! Heeheehee! THAT should be interesting!

Day #6 Art Every Day Month – Winter ATCs and More!

I’m happy to report that I made it back to the studio today! Spent the whole morning in my jammies and sweatshirt just playing!

I’m really enjoying making ATCs. They are a great way to learn to paint! It is an inexpensive way to experiment with techniques. I had so much fun all morning seeing how differently paint reacts with and without gel medium, using brushes and fingers and other tools…seriously, I was beside myself with joy! I easily could have stayed all weekend.

I finished the “Winter” themed cards for my “Fly Tribe” swap December 1st. I will shock everyone by having them in so early!

I’m so cramped for space with my mess that drying all the cards was interesting!

Each layer was just more and more exciting!

Bases done!

I got cleaned up mid-day and went with my daughter and her husband to take the girls to a theater production of “Beauty and the Beast” at out local Junior College. It was really good!

Back home, I fixed dinner, and added a few inches to Joshua’s scarf while it cooked. 27″ down, 9″ and fringe to go!

Then back to the studio after dinner to finish the ATCs…

Added a few dimensional snowflakes and stamped some letters, and ta da!

(The color isn’t so good on this one taking the picture at night with artificial light! Tomorrow I’ll try taking the pictures again with natural daylight like I used with the “in process” pictures.)

Then, on to the Christmas ornaments. They are complete except for the hanger. I found the perfect stuff, but not in the right color, so now I’ve locked on to it and can’t find anything I like as well. So, they’ll be sitting here unfinished until I figure it out. This is how I end up with unfinished projects, so I’m bound and determined to find something this weekend. Now I have to figure out whether to keep them for myself or list them on Etsy… Hahahaha! I don’t know whether to sell 3 just a little different, but with the same message as a set, or try to come up with 2 other messages. Thoughts?

I have to say, it feels like another productive day!
