Last night the seas were so much calmer, or so we woke up thinking.
But as it turned out, we didn’t spend the night on the high seas like we thought.
We woke to discover that while we were dining last night, our ship was boarded by the park rangers for a spot inspection. In the freezer they found 8 illegal lobsters, and our captain was arrested and our ship was under detention in San Cristobal, just a short ways from where we were yesterday.
So, Road Scholar came up with a quick plan B, to keep us entertained while we waited to hear our fate.
We took a bus trip across the island to a center that specialized in breeding tortoises for introduction back to the islands. It was quite educational, and we had our 1st interaction with the Galapagos Tortoises. Pretty amazing.
We also saw lots of lava lizards,
…and our first Galapagos mockingbirds.
In the afternoon we visited the opposite side of the island, more sea lions, and oodles of marine iguanas.
For a plan “B,” not a bad day!
