South Lake Tahoe Trip

Awhile back we stumbled onto one of those “can’t pass it up” deals on a timeshare in South Lake Tahoe. Timeshares can be notoriously bad ideas, but if you get them on the resale market, they can be pretty good. This particular one is a summer (high season) every other year timeshare at a nice resort overlooking the Carson Valley, just about 1o minutes from the lake.

It has 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, full kitchen, washer/dryer, patio with table and chairs – pretty much everything you’d need for a little one week get-away.

The best news is we paid $1.00 for it, and the seller paid all the closing and transfer costs. Yep, that’s not a typo…$1.00. Maintenance fees make it about $145 per night, much lower than the going rate at this development during the high season.

So, this was our first year to use it. Initially we were going to come up in August for Mr. Tattered’s birthday, but we ended up with a significant conflict, and changed it it to June, and MY birthday! Woohoo! We invited the kids to come up for whatever days they could, so it ended up being a party! I just love it when we can all be together. With everyone’s crazy schedules it doesn’t happen often enough to suit me!

We took a nice hike along the Tahoe Rim Trail in the morning,

followed by a trip up the gondolas at Heavenly. Up at the observation platform there is a really amazing view of the lake.

I can tell already our time here is going to go by WAAAAAAAY too fast!
