In Search of Fall!

Welcome to the last day of Blogtoberfest…

Fall is one of my favorite times of year. According to the calendar, it’s here, but you’d never know it by looking around my yard. Or at least that’s what I thought when I went out in the backyard armed with my camera.

Friends living back east have been posting beautiful pictures of their brightly colored trees – mine are still green with just a hint of color.

I didn’t really think I was going to find much out there to suggest that Fall was, indeed, here.

But I was surprised.

The Chinese Pistache that had only a few red leaves a few days ago is actually looking quite Fall-ish today!

The crape mrytle, even more so…

The pyracantha berries are ripe and will be keeping the bird’s bellies full for months…

The sweet little zinnias just keep blooming…

The bright gold mums are now past prime and ready to be cut back.

And the earth boxes are planted with winter greens (chard and broccoli!)

So, we haven’t had the cold temperatures at night yet that give us our shocking fall colors, but fall has definitely arrived! Now I think I’m ready for a little rain and snuggling up in front of a fire. Hope you’re taking time to enjoy the Fall finery in your neck of the woods!

  1. You may not have a fall like our Michigan autumns, but you also won’t have the winter and snow/cold like our Michigan winters.

    • After 25 years in the mountains, one of the things we LOVE about being “flatlanders” is that the percipitation runs down the driveway! Yep, you DO pay a high price for your fall splendor!

  2. Beautiful range of colours in all of your great photos. Enjoy your snuggling in front of the fire… and the rain. 🙂
