Christmas is over, and I am going to be so busy for the next week, that 2012 will be here in the blink of an eye. With that in mind, I am in planning mode.
I have been hearing a lot lately about the concept of choosing a word for the new year that will guide you throughout the year. The idea is to make the word your own. Look at it, explore it, think about it often, weave it into every day of the year – LIVE it.
I have given it a fair amount of thought, and my word for 2012 is going to be “create.”
I have been on a creative journey for some months now, and for the new year the act of actually creating is going to be my primary focus.
It isn’t a real specific word. It leaves lots of room for exploring different mediums, new ideas, but it will remind me that actively creating is my goal for the year. I plan to go to bed every night reflecting on what I created that day, and envisioning what I will create the next, then opening my eyes in the morning anxious to tackle whatever “it” is!
I want to end the year having created a lot – product for my Etsy store, gifts, memories, meals, things for my home, pages for my scrapbooks.
But in addition to “creating” I also want to “re-create.” Part of this year-long project is going to be re-creating myself.
In 2012 I will turn 60. Yep. Six Zero. A huge milestone. I demanded a recount, but there is no escaping the reality. So, if I have to be such an “OLD” sounding age, I want to do it the best I can. I want to feel the best I can feel, look the best I can look and BE the best I can be.
Create. I am excited by the possibilities.
If you haven’t yet heard about my give-away in celebration of my 100th post, be sure to check it out!

Lovely word – guess you’ll have fun exploring everything it means for you in 2012 !! Take care, Frauke
Thank you, Frauke! Are you going to choose one for yourself?

Excellent! I did one little word last year and plan to do it again this year. Last year my word was “nurture.” I could certainly use another year of taking care of myself, but I’m thinking I’ll choose another word.
Another good one! So do you feel like you did a good job of doing that?

Typically, I did a great job for a very short time. However, I did keep reminding myself of my word as the year progressed, and there were times of nurturing. I’m hoping to do better with my word this year. And I’m sort of thinking of — organize.
Ooooh, organize. That’s a good one too!

Good word!!!! I like this idea much more than resolutions!
(one reason resolutions loose their fizz) It will be a gentle reminder of my past words and the newest – all a part of me, to help me be who I am meant to be! xo
I have chosen words the last few years and am working on a charm bracelet with them as I have a limited memory sometimes
ps-they tell me you are only as old as you feel, so you got this!
I’m not good at keeping my resolutions, so I’m hoping a single word will be more effective! If I’m only as old as I feel, then I’m in pretty good shape! Lordy, Lordy…don’t know how all this time has gone by so quickly!

I’m glad you decided Janet! Yes, the word can relate to many things and they are all great, so it will be a great year for you. I’m still deciding myself on my word–was thinking of commit (as in commit to calling this boutique for my art; commit to getting organized), not sure yet though. Thanks for sharing your final decision–I was wondering what you are going with.
Jill
Commit! That’s a good one, too!

Janet, impressive that you’ve chosen your word. And, it is a great word. This post is wonderful and I love that you shared the meaning that the word has for you.
I’ve been thinking about this for weeks now. I think I’ve decided not because I chose the word but because my word chose me. (to be shared on my messages from the universe post Monday 1/2)
Lori, that’s great! I’ll be anxious to see what it is!

Great idea, Janet! I am right now reading Art At The Speed Of Life by Pam Carriker, in hopes of being more productive in the coming year. Maybe productive should be my word. Thanks!
Sounds like a good idea, Mary!
Love your word, Janet. I have been contemplating mine. I look forward to 60. I hope your year is beautiful and meaningful….Rae
I can’t say I’m exited about 60 but I’m less depressed than I expected!.:;;;,

Hi Janet, a wonderful word, to start off the year creating and visualizing a ‘new’ fresh start for twentytwelve. Wishing you all the best in reaching your creative dreams and spirits.x
Thank you Yvette!
I am not sure I can think of a word, hmmm. There is just so much I need to fix in my life, it’s hard to pick a direction…maybe my word should be “FOCUS”…
Focus is a good one, too! Yikes, so many to chose from!
I will be doing a posting on 1/1 about my “word”. Problem is, I’m still deciding but will have it figured out within the next couple of days. Don’t be too anxious about being 60. Let’s just say that I will be going on Medicare when my next birthday comes around in the fall. Oooh, that’s really a hard age! Problem is, the older you get the faster the time seems to fly by.
Thanks, Carol…I’m not really all that upset about it…growing old is a privilege denied to many. It’s just so hard to say! Hahahaha!
I’m right there with you on this…there is a certain amount of preparation mentally, creating a physical space, etc. But it’s time for me to immerse myself….Nice to know someone on that part of the process too!
Glad we’re on the road together! We can keep each other encouraged!
The best thing about the word of hte year is, they have so many permutations and nuances of meaning as the year progresses. So much creative fodder to work from.
Love your word, and your photo displaying it! Janet, 6 + 0 = 6. You are still young, and you are still awesome!!!!
Thank you Darlin’! I’m gettin’ my awesome back, but don’t know that I’m quite there yet! xo
