Day #20 Art Every Day Month – Cake Day!

Today, almost the WHOLE day, was spent getting the birthday cake done for my granddaughter! I didn’t realize it would be such a project. It seemed pretty manageable, but wow, it took a long time to get all those little dots on there!

As of this writing it isn’t QUITE done, but I’ll show you where I am, as it is about time to publish. I’ll follow tomorrow with the completed cake. Really it just needs a bit of finish work – a ruffle around the sleeve and the trim around the bottom of the cake – you may not even be able to tell the difference.

I don’t know that decorating a child’s birthday cake can truly be classified as art, but I’ll tell you taking this:

and this:

and turning it into this:

is pretty rewarding, even if it can’t be called artistic. I can hardly wait for Hannah to see it. I think she will love!

  1. It is art!! If don’t believe me just ask just ask Hannah! Very well done. I from experience that decorating a cake like that is very time consuming. It’s time well spent.

  2. Like I have said before, your grandchildren are truly blessed – the cake is beyond amazing. It was my birthday today and my mom forgot! My son’s was November 11 and she forgot his, too. I can’t even understand how that could happen. Good to let the other art go – you did the better thing!

    • Thank you Kathleen! I really enjoy being able to do this for the kiddles. It is nothing I would ever do for money, just for love. They don’t know understand now how much love goes into them, but they will some day, and they’ll see the pictures long after I’m gone and know how much their Gaga loved them.

  9. Janet,

You are the most amazing Grandma EVER! Are you kidding, I believe that is as artsy as you can get! What a beautiful job!! Just curious if there is a layer of handwritten paper under the frosting (this would make it a signature Janet Forrest!) I bet you were tempted!

Awesome job my friend! :-) Kris

    • No handwritten paper! Hahahahaha! Just aching hands from all the squeezing. I have tremendous appreciation for people who do this for a living. I’d charge $400 for a cake like that!

    • You guys are so sweet to let me off the hook so easily. Creative, yes. Art? I don’t know that it rises to that level, but as long as it counts for this exercise I’m happy!
